Author to Share Her Experience of Seven Years on the High Seas

Here’s what the article says:
“For most people, a boat trip is purposefully short, not unlike the three-hour tour that Gilligan and his crew set out upon in the popular 1960s TV sitcom.

But for voyager Wendy Hinman, it turned into a seven-year journey with her husband Garth. Together, they canvassed 34,000 miles, sailing across the Pacific Ocean in their 31-foot sailboat. Over the next two weeks, Hinman will share her experiences with Cape Codders during three separate talks and signings of her book Tightwads on the Loose which details her adventures on the high seas, all on a limited budget.

The couple quickly realized that life on the ocean is full of surprises and danger that included dodging typhoons; sailing the Solomon Islands without navigation equipment; swimming in snake- and crocodile-infested waters; surviving modern-day life without the Internet; and visiting the island where Garth had been shipwrecked as a teenager, only to discover it had become a penal colony.

Hinman’s book, which was the 2015 Winner of Journey Award for True Life Adventure Story (Chanticleer Book Reviews), is a charming look at the highs and lows of life on the water.

Having presented at the Pacific Northwest Writers Association Conference, Seattle Boat Show, Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival and Spring Symposia and Women in Boating Seminar, Hinman inspires others to pursue their own adventures through her presentations. She will do just that starting this Thursday, June 16 at the Falmouth Yacht Club on Clinton Avenue at 6 pm.

Next Monday, June 20 at 6 pm, Hinman will present photos and stories from her book at the Cape Cod Maritime Museum in Hyannis. She will conclude her Cape Cod tour on Saturday, June 25 at Titcomb’s Bookshop on Route 6A in East Sandwich, where she will be selling and signing copies of her book.
